When we think of the "other side" where ghosts and spirits are concerned, the words "mysterious" and "unknown" come to mind. As paranormal scientists, we have yet to discover what is on that side and is nearly impossible to get a glimpse of it until we find the technology or the means to do so.  The paranormal world has always been an enigma and for those who believe and have been "haunted" in some form or another, proves frightening at times because they simply do not understand it.
For those who have been studying the paranormal world, like us, it is not frightening but merely a conquest that we have yet to uncover.

When we come in contact with spirits in a location we look at it as a "teaser" to the other side; so close, yet so far away. As paranormal investigators, we realize we are a part of a very special fraternity -- pioneers who continue to make great strides in uncovering what is on the spiritual realm. However, we almost do not really want to uncover it all because then the mystery and the excitement may vanish and there will be nothing left to discover. Maybe it is meant to be that way.  It just means that we will always have something to investigate and even though we reveal one aspect of the supernatural world, we know there are so many other layers that are yet to be uncovered.

One layer in particular seems to fall away from the typical school of thought in regards to spirits and hauntings.  When we move into a haunted location and reside there for a period of time, we may not know it is haunted until we begin to remodel and change the location from its original state. Yes, we may believe we are updating it to fit current codes and design trends but what about those who still may reside there. Those that may not reveal themselves, but let themselves be known through other means.(ie., footsteps, bangs, moving objects, disembodied voices) They still believe that is their home and it is perfect the way it is. They have been living there for centuries, unfettered and then strangers come along and rip their world to shreds.

A spirit's means of communication to let the living know of their existence can be quite frightening. However, if we were able to see things from their side. They see us as ghosts. It frightens them to see strangers ripping old wallpaper from their walls, throwing out old furniture, outdated decorations, etc. I am sure that when people like us, as investigators come in to a location with strange devices that make irritating noises, it can be just as bad. However, when we let them know that we want to help them in communicating a message to the new owners of a location, they become curious and interested. At least that's what we want to believe. As investigators, we go in to try to help the spirits get their message across and then communicate it to the new owners and hope that they can co-inhabit with each other. We try to help the owners of a location understand what and who they are dealing with from the spiritual realm and also get them to see the perspective of the lost souls and how they perceive the living.  Usually after explaining this, the living inhabitants are understanding and will do what needs to be done in order to live peacefully with their resident ghosts.  After all, they were technically there first  and the living are merely just passing through ;).
